Adam Sandler Is Finally Returning To Host SNL, Said He Never Considered It Before Because He Thought He Was 'Too Slow'

Source -  After being opposed to the hosting gig for years, Adam Sandler is returning to NBC on May 4 along with musical guest Shawn Mendes.

The fact that Adam Sandler has never hosted SNL before 2019 is a shocking fact in and of itself.  His name and success are practically synonymous with the late night variety show. But Sandler’s lack of hosting has nothing to do with any secret Lorne Michaels feud, and everything to do with Sandler himself. While on the Norm Macdonald Live podcast back in 2014, Sandler told his SNL colleague why he’s never considered returning to the show that made him a household name.

“Why should I?” he said. “I don’t know how good it would be. I’m slow now.” He then continued. “There are guys who love doing it — who are great at doing it … I just don’t know how good I’d be doing it. I did what I can do on the show.”

How about that? Adam-fucking-Sandler didn’t want to host SNL because he thought he was ‘too slow.’ The guy who invented Opera Man, the Cajun Man, was one half of the Gap Girls and an integral member of the cast from 1990 to 1995, when SNL was at its peak, didn’t want to host the show because he thought he lost his fast ball. Just goes to show that everyone, no matter their success has some level of self-doubt. It doesn’t matter if you’re a movie star or the guy running the halal cart on the corner 28th and Broadway, everyone has doubt. It’s kind of refreshing.

That said, I’m glad he finally did decide to return to the show. I feel like SNL needs him. It’s so political now. I get that they have to be, but it can be overwhelming. Sandler always kept it super light. The character he was playing was the brunt of the joke, not some politician that everyone’s sick of hearing about anyway.

I doubt he’ll do any of his old characters, but take a look at some of these moments.

Laugh out loud stuff every time. I wonder what Farley would think about him going back? I’m sure he’d be pumped. I don’t watch SNL much anymore, but I’ll be glued to my TV on May 4th.

And don’t think I forgot about you, Mendes.

You’re half the reason I wrote this blog in the first place. Hopefully the stage hands have the rain machine ready. See you babes next month.
